Before the movie started last night, my husband let me explain to him the things that were keeping me stalled and stumbling on my current book. The things that frustrated me and made me want to dump it. After answering just three questions from him about the book (as in, "Why does she do this?" and "What happens next?" , etc), I was able to solve my plot problems by just explaining to him what my, and my character's, goals are. Then he reminded me, since it is a book about a girl winning a lottery, I need to keep it about the money. This had been my plan and roadmap all along, to keep it about the money and all the things she does with it, but somehow I got bogged down in a cruise she is on and it is taking me so long on this book that I was losing motivation.
So, just a brief conversation with someone else about my book helped me solve the problems, even without telling him all about the book and rambling on for hours and hours about what's happening or going to happen in my book (that annoys him).
After writing for so many years, I've discovered all the things that inspire me and motivate me and I thank God every day that I live in the age of Youtube and Google! It is now so easy to find and watch the things that inspire me and motivate me. Some days, it's simply a video put up by other writers about their experiences. Some days, it's a video related to my topic. Some days, it's just posting the number of words I've written on Facebook. (I'll be having a fan page up soon on FB, I think I already have one, I'm not sure. But if not, I'll create one and then post links here so you can all join me :) )
Well, it is time to go out to lunch, go for a lovely summer drive in the country, maybe to the beach, I'm not sure, and then back here to write from four or five until three in the morning. :)
